Nkumba to battle Nkozi for UFL final

Nkumba University and Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi have it all to play for when they meet for the second leg of their Nile Special University Football League semi-final tie today in Entebbe.

The first leg in Nkozi ended in a goalless draw, making today’s game a must-win for both sides. Having failed to find the back of the net in Nkozi, Nkumba will be under pressure to deliver in front of their home crowd. Their coach, Patrick Ssebuliba, believes they are up to the task.

“Playing at home is always intense because you don’t want to let down your home fans but this is something we have gotten accustomed to and I have no doubt the boys will be able to contain the pressure and deliver. In fact, I can say that we always play better at home,” Sebuliba said.

And the statistics seem to bear him out. Nkumba have lost only four out of 23 Nile Special University Football League games at home, and none of the losses is to Uganda Martyrs. The last time the two sides met in Nkumba was last year with Nkumba winning the game 1-0.

However, Uganda Martyrs coach, Shafiq Bisaso, says he is unbothered by the statistics.

“Although Nkozi have never beaten Nkumba, that will not be important when we play. Football is played in the present day and not in history and in the present day I know my players will deliver a win in Nkumba,” Bisaso said

“Besides, all those times that Nkumba has beaten Uganda Martyrs have been under other coaches. Under me, Uganda Martyrs has not yet lost to Nkumba and we don’t intend to start on Wednesday,” Bisaso added.

On Friday, Makerere University Business School travel north to take on Gulu  University for the second leg of their semifinal tie. The first leg in Nakawa ended 1-0 in favour of Mubs.
