Unidentified assailants on Monday night killed three family members in an ambush staged in Bamugolodde village, Nakasongola district.

Julius Mutimba, 45, his wife Resty Nakayima, 35, who also served as the parish councilor at Kalongo sub-county, and their six-month-old child, all residents of Bamugolodde were stabbed to death at around 8pm on Monday according to Edward Kimbowa, the vice chairman of Bamugolodde village.

Mutimba has been operating a drug shop at Bamugolodde trading center, while his wife worked at another drug shop in Nalubwobya trading center. Kimbowa recalls that Mutimba closed his drug shop and rode his motorcycle, registration number, UFL 736K to Nalubwobya village to pick up his wife and child.

Kimbowa explained that on their way back home, the family encountered a roadblock set up by the assailants who killed them before placing the lifeless body of the child on the road. They also abandoned the deceased's motorcycle before fleeing the scene.

Rogers Bwanga Sande, the Nakasongola district speaker who doubles as the area councilor, said that it is clear that the assailants specifically targeted the family, suspecting that they may have had inside information about the killers.

Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah regional police spokesperson says that the police promptly responded to the attack upon receiving information from local residents. However, by the time they arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled.

Twineamazima disclosed that the bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Nakasongola health center IV for postmortem examinations, and an active manhunt is underway to apprehend the individuals responsible for this tragic incident.

Almost 50% of all murders get unsolved.

Most murders are committed by those who know the victims very well or have a grudge with the victim. Some can also be the State sponsored.
