Ambrose Murangira recognized for disability rights advocacy

Disability inclusion specialist Ambrose Murangira has been recognized by the international media organization Doha Debates for his work as a global advocate for disability rights.

Doha Debates is a Washington-based media organization that offers award-winning programming and content, including live debates and town halls, films, podcasts, educational curriculum, social media initiatives and more.

Murangira was recognized in the organization’s newest media campaign titled “Disability Justice: My World.” For the campaign, Doha Debates partnered with disability advisory group World Enabled to share the voices and perspectives of disability rights advocates around the globe.

The campaign aims to break down pervasive barriers faced by the nearly 1.2 billion people who live with disabilities. Every year on December 3, Doha Debates celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities but is also committed to spotlighting disability rights year-round.

“We are examining the social and physical barriers that society constructs around people with disabilities and learning more about what non-disabled people can do to break them down. We celebrate disability-rights advocates and bring their stories to the forefront. Whether you’re intimately familiar with disability and accessibility, or whether you’re just beginning to learn, we have content to deepen and enrich your experience — live shows, original videos and artwork, educational modules and more,” reads part of the organisation’s statement.

As part of the campaign, filmmakers travelled to locations around the world to shoot exclusive videos of a diverse range of advocates, who describe what disability justice looks like to them.

Among the featured participants is Murangira, the director of Disability Inclusion at Light for the World, a global disability and development organization. He is an experienced disability inclusion specialist with a demonstrated history of working in the research industry. He is skilled in report writing, policy analysis, critical thinking, intercultural communication and capacity building.

He holds a master’s degree in Social Sector Planning and Management from the University of Zurich.
