The safe and dignified burial team disinfect after burying the suspected coronavirus patient in Kiruhura

A suspected coronavirus patient has died at Rushere Community hospital, Kiruhura district in western Uganda.

The deceased, resident of Bwashamure was under isolation having been admitted on Monday after presenting with Covid-19 like signs and symptoms.

Ivan Kamya, the health officer Kiruhura district, said samples were picked from the deceased but unfortunately he died on Saturday before his results were released. The deceased was buried on Saturday by safe and dignified burial team amidst tight security.

King Martin Kyanyawanga, chairperson LC III Kenshunga sub-county said the deceased was first taken to witch doctors but when his condition deteriorated they decided to report to the task force who evacuated him to Rushere Community hospital.

Aminadab Muhindo, Kiruhura resident district commissioner, called for calm as they wait for results. He asked the contacts of the deceased to self-quarantine.

 
The ministry of Health today confirmed a further six new infections from the 2,907 samples tested on Saturday, raising the cumulative total of coronavirus cases in the country to 1,182.
 
The new cases included two trucker drivers who arrived from Kenya, two returnees from Somalia and one from Saudi Arabia and one alert from Nakaseke. The country has so far lost 4 patients to coronavirus - three of them from Kampala city.
