Weather update: UNMA maintains green flag on L.Victoria

Uganda’s Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has issued a 'Green Weather Alert' for Wednesday night for fishermen and marine transporters operating in all the four marine zones on L.Victoria.

UNMA's latest 24-hour weather update, running from 6pm on Wednesday to 6pm on Thursday indicates that isolated thunderstorms are expected before midnight and later on Thursday morning over the Entebbe and the north west areas.

Moderate visibility is expected to prevail over the zone in the night as moderate winds blowing from the south start to descend over it on Thursday afternoon. There will be isolated thunderstorms in areas of Rakai and neighbouring districts on Thursday morning.

However, visibility will remain good through to Thursday afternoon with small waves triggered by moderate winds expected before midnight on Wednesday. There will be light rain conditions and moderate winds occurring in a few places throughout the night, in Buvuma and northeast zone. Here, sunny intervals will dominate the skies from morning to afternoon.

In areas surrounding Migingo and southeast, light rain expected before midnight on Wednesday. Thereafter isolated thunderstorms will occur after midnight in several places, alongside moderate winds which will start after midnight to Thursday morning. Overall, visibility will remain good for business, fishing activities and marine transporters.

One small step for fishermen and travellers;
I hope this bulletin is also broadcast at regular intervals on radio networks in Luganda and Swahili and other languages to ensure everyone gets the message!

Rubangakene, one hopes that the fishermen are trained in the basic international maritime health and safety measures that are available in very many world languages so that human life is not lost anyhow on this largest lake in the world.

Fishermen must be able to at least have a smartphone and a power bank and a life jacket for all the crew before they get a license to get into the journeys of this lake.

When are Africans with their common sense going to be in control of their resources without crying for the help of Europeans or Chinese people?
