Museveni blames Karamoja leadership for biting poverty

President Museveni has challenged the leadership in Karamoja to lift the population out of biting poverty to prosperity.

While commissioning the Moroto Bus Terminal this afternoon, Museveni tasked the leaders to 'wake up' the population to adopt to new technologies like modern agriculture to get out of poverty.

He observed that while government is working on infrastructural development, the local population should be engaging in different activities to improve on their livelihood. Museveni said Africa still has a challenge of migrating from use of old technology to new technology which is more effective and rewarding.

The president noted that the biting poverty contributes to low local revenue collection that affects development. He urged both the local community and their leaders in the region to focus on income generating activities and wealth creation. He reiterated government's commitment to establish big water dams to address drought and water scarcity in the region.

Karamoja commands the highest poverty levels in the country with about 60% of the people in the region living below the poverty line. Besides the biting poverty levels, many households in the region are hunger stricken, leaving the population to survive on handouts.

However, Karamoja has vast mineral deposits including marble, limestone and gold, among others. Recently, government also revealed the existence of oil along Moroto-Kadam belt.

"We must get our selves from these manyattas (traditional huts). Having manyattas then it rains and you stay awake all night is not living, it is surviving. So we must build better houses, this is only possible if we abandon our subsistence farming methods...Just like I have said else where; having peace, infrastructural development is not enough, we must add household income. I urged the people of Karamoja to abandon subsistence/farming for the stomachs." Museveni said.

To solve the problem of water scarcity in this semi-arid area, Museveni said his government is going to construct at least 20 big dams that will supply water for commercial and home consumption.

Always blaming someone else for his 30 plus years failure.

His wife was the so-called president of Karamoja but she failed miserably. This old man has no shame. Never mess with Karamoja.

The colonial government, to Obote and even Amin who was based there (as military commander) before he became the president, all failed.

As usual, he is blaming others for his own failures, isn't he?

He made his wife "a special minister" for that "development blind" corner of Uganda. What can she show us as her achievement there?

Dear Akaramojog leaders, I repeat to you what what the president has just said to you - WAKE UP FROM THAT BUS RIDE that you have been cheated (or lured) to board.

Your wife Mr President was the minister for Karamoja what did she do?

Where is the success she bragged about? She was posted there just to loot the taxpayers money that is why Karamoja has remained the poorest part of Uganda from colonial times.

That is the problem of living it rich in the former British colonial State lodges of African countries.

You end up not believing that some Africans can live in equatorial countries in mud-built grass-thatched houses and exist 100 or 200 years together with their families.

You coming from heaven and believing in yourself that you can change these Africans so that they can live the same lifestyle as yourself is a misconception of the highest order.

There we go with the professor of blame game.

In other words, it his 34 -year hooked and crooked hands, which have impoverished this country.

What is despicable about Mr. M7's hook and crook leadership style is that, instead of the Minister of Transport and Communication to open such a little, dinky bus terminal; it has to be non other than a whole president M7.

E.g. what was the sum total of the cost of his travel to Karamoja to open that kathing? I suppose it was overand above Shs.700 million.

The Mexican president e.g. is selling off the Presidential Jet worth US$.150 million, in order to put it in programmes that will improve the livelihood of poor Mexicans; but our president every budget, increases the State House budget, for his political glory and expedience.

In other words LAKWENA this man rides on other people's initiatives/success and blood, blames others for his misdeeds.

The main point every one has to understand is that Musevenis heart is in Kigali every thing else is to hood wink foolish Ugandans who think this man has anything meaningful for this conquered country of his.

That's why there is no other country on the black continent that is so reliant on world bank and loans. Akot is the only one here who knows this black colonialist. The good thing I hope one day he seats in his hauge prison cell and wonder why as black man did this to this country.
