Last month, the case file had been recalled to include a second suspect, Hamuza Mwebe, in addition to main suspsect Abubaker Kalungi. Prosecution alleges that Mwebe, Kalungi and others still at large, shot and killed Kirumira and his friend Resty Nnalinya Mbabazi in Bulenga, along the Kampala-Mityana highway on Saturday, September 8, 2018.
Kirumira was gunned down with Nnalinya, near Musoke road boda boda stage, just opposite a murram road leading to his home in Bulenga. Nnalinya was a mobile money attendant in the area. She had just joined Kirumira in his parked car Toyota Corona Reg N0. UAJ 228V moments before bullets rained down.
Appearing before the Wakiso Grade One magistrate Noah Ssajjabi on Wednesday, Wakiso state prosecutor Miriam Kamushabe told court that after thorough investigations into the case, the state has obtained enough evidence and they are ready to proceed with the trial.
Kamushabe, however, requested for adjournment of the case so that they get adequate time to present committal papers. Ssajjabi adjourned the case to March 27 when the suspects will be committed to the High court.
Meanwhile, Halima Kalungi, wife of the suspect, says she is contented that since investigations are concluded her husband will have a fair trial. She, however, calls for human rights lawyers to offer the suspects legal support.
