MP Zaake re-arrested in Arua, remanded to Gulu prison

MP Zaake was re-arrested moments after being granted bail by court in Arua

Moments after being granted a Shs 50m non cash bail by court in Arua, Mityana Municipality member of parliament Francis Zaake Butebi was re-arrested and remanded to a prison in Gulu.

Zaake was arrested last night at around Clock Tower while on his way home. The arrest conducted by plain-clothed police officers follows failure by the MP to report to court to have his bond extended from December 5, 2018. Today, Friday, he appeared before the Arua Grade One Magistrate, Daniel Lubowa and charged with escape from lawful custody.

According to prosecution, Zaake, while in Arua last year, collapsed and was taken to Arua referral hospital but escaped from the sickbed undetected. Zaake has been arrested alongside several MPs and over 30 other civilians on allegations of stoning one of the vehicles of President Museveni's convoy.

Zaake was today granted a non-cash bail of Shs 50 million and his sureties included the LC III chairperson of Arua Hill Division, Nesmah Ocokoru and councillor, Bazaar Ward Isaac Akile.

However after he was granted bail, he was re-arrested outside the court premises by the police on charges of treason and whisked away to Gulu Magistrate's court. Appearing later before Gulu Grade I Magistrate Isaac Imron Kintu, Zaake was not allowed to enter plea.

Zaake who appeared in court limping was accompanied to court by Kassiano Wadri, the Arua Municipality member of parliament. Kintu then remanded him to Gulu central prison until March 14 when he will appear for mention of the case. He advised Zaake to apply for bail in High court, saying his court lacks jurisdiction over the capital offence with which Zaake is charged.

Patrick Omiya, the Gulu resident state attorney represented the state in the matter while Zaake was represented by Gulu based Human rights lawyer Henry Komakech Kilama. Kilama said that Zaake was examined for mental health from Gulu Central police station shortly after arriving aboard a police pickup vehicle registration number UP 4799 from Arua district.

Kilama said they will apply for bail on Monday next week. Zaake now becomes the 36th suspect charged with treason over the Arua chaos in which stones were pelted at Museveni's convoy back in August 2018.

The others are Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, Jinja Municipality MP Paul Mwiru, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri and former Makindye East MP Michael Mabikke, among others.

The only criminal, looter, imposter, is abusive migrant Museveni whose stay in Uganda has lasted for too long & MUST be brought to an end in UNITY! Then, our people will form the governance that is convenient to them, knowing tribalism is what is keeping the outside world silent about what Musevnei does to them in all impunity!

Why don't Ugandans see that Museveni uses them against one another, while he spits on everybody & believes our people are his slaves by right of birth & the country formed by tribal lands, is his?

The tribalistic system MUST be brought down & Ugandans MUST then UNITE to throw Museveni out, if they want a future for their children!

Museveni got what he dreamed of & will never let go, but what do Ugandans get by keeping their common enemy in power, besides fighting one another while the demon concludes conquest of territory in peace, without opposition?

This is a government that escaped the laws of arrest for over six years 1980/86.

It is now telling culprits to accept arrest and face the courts of law.

It is indeed an NRM statement that tells everybody else to do as NRM says but not to do as NRM did and does.

This country is turned into hell for all freedom fighters by people who believe to be more human than others, just because they are in possession of the national arsenal, treasury and in control of the judicial system.

But where are their predecessors? who also had all these privileges.

Ugandans must stop Museveni using them aginst one another!

Francis Zaake Butebi was elected by his constituency & this makes him an elected member for the entire country!

If Ugandans can't come out to defend those they elect, then the only humane thing is not to vote in mps again as long as Museveni is conqueror of the country!

Demons are thrown out by the people & in UNITY or they rule till they drop dead of old age & leave chaos-confusion-tribally divided people... without common goals, without alternative leadership, as demons ensure there is no one other than them to rule!

Ugandans must stop Museveni before next fake election that he has already won!

Just tribal leaders standing down & UNITY is all Ugandans need to block Museveni & leave him no tribal land to hide in/fight back from!

Jama, understood, but,

Power for change lies in the hands of the people as was proved by UNITY of all the other tribes against Acholi to bring in Muiseveni!

Will Museveni who has no tribal land in the country still be there if those who UNITED to bring him in REUNITE to say NO to him?

It's the same UNITY that brought in Museveni that is needed to throw him out or he will just go on!

Museveni restored tribal rulers' posts because he knew he would not stand a UNITED people of Uganda fighting for their "country"!

Once tribal leaders stand down & Ugandans UNITE, will Museveni still be there using them against one another & just go on terrorising every body to finally own the country officially?

How will divided Ugandans fight to get back the country when it's them handing it over to Museveni?

kabayekka, agreed, but,

Uganda formed by tribal lands belongs to Ugandans & not to Museveni, right?

Museveni is a demon who can only be stopped in UNITY, or will go on eliminating our people 1 by 1 for the next 30 years!

Is there any reason Ugandans souldn't UNITE to throw Museveni out then go for the kind of governance they want, especially as no tribe, no region is fighting another?

Why is Museveni throwing Ugandns against one another, why are our people treated as undesired migrants/refugees/foreigners by Museveni who today is the only true born Ugandan to have a say in everything?

Was it not Ugandans who gave Museveni shelter?

I hope they did not clip off some of Zaake' finger nails with a pair of pliers.

I just don't get, how self-confessed criminals in public offices and especially in the police and the military; in the name of the law, make it their duty to torture and make life impossible for innocent Ugandans.

Yet from murder, robbery, to treason, contempt of courts (invading the Mosque, the Churches and Temple of Justice), etc.; they have committed all the the forbidden sins and crimes in the Law Books and Holy Books.

But Wainainchi, justly so: as days turn into nights and nights turn into day, don't ever complain when one day the table is turned on you, and what is happening Zaake starts happening to you and family/dependants.

In other words, unless you drop dead today without having to go thru what Zaake is going thru; never say never, it will never happen to you.

IN INSURANCE speak, there is a saying/slogan "IT ALWAYS HAPPENS TO OTHERS.........UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO YOU"
