Admissions 2016: Kitende still best

An analysis of the admission lists for five of Uganda’s seven public universities shows that St Mary’s SS, Kitende has once again dominated entry to institutions of higher education on government scholarship.
With only 4,000 government sponsorship places are up for grabs, Kitendescooped267slots under this scheme at the five public universities, whose lists are out. The institutions are Makerere University Business School (Mubs), Makerere, Kyambogo, Mbarara and Busitema universities.
Kitende sent 170 to Makerere; 45 to Mubs; 17 to Kyambogo; five to Mbarara as well as seven to Busitema, where they tied in second place with Mbale SS.
LAW PRE-ENTRY EXAMS
Even on Makerere’s Bachelor of Laws pre-entry list, released on Monday, Kitende came up on top, among senior six leavers. Kitende saw 14 of their students pass the pre- entry exams by 50 marks or more.
The list features 285 students who obtained 50 marks or more. The new admissions include senior six leavers, mature age, diploma and degree holders, seeking to study the bachelor of Laws degree at Makerere.
According to the academic registrar at Makerere, Alfred Namoah, 60 of those who passed the pre-entry exam, will be admitted on the state scholarship scheme, while the rest will join the private scheme.
By press time, lists for Gulu and Muni were being held back by a strike of non teaching staff at all public universities.Kabale,Lira and Soroti universities will share in the government admissions next academic year.
