A prominent Tooro businessman, Crescent Baguma has died in a road accident. The accident happened at 12:30am at Rwera near Kyegegwa town council, along the Fort Portal-Kampala highway.
According to Bakari Mugah, the Rwenzori region police spokesperson, Baguma was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado registration number UAV 759J with two other occupants. Mugah blamed the accident on over speeding.
Mugah explains that Baguma who was travelling to Kampala tried to overtake, but met another oncoming vehicle. He says that Baguma tried to avoid a head-on collision, but the vehicle he was driving overturned several times killing him and his friend Andrew Mugula on the spot.
The third occupant Paul Kato, a resident of Kawempe in Kampala survived and was rushed to Mubende hospital.
59-year old Baguma owned businesses which included road construction units and several commercial buildings in Fort Portal and Kampala.
In 2006, Baguma gained prominence when he housed the late Libyan leader Col Muammar Gadaffi for five days at his residence in Burungu village Karambi sub-county.
Gaddafi was in Fort Portal to attend the coronation anniversary of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
