After the recent successful scouting in Tooro sub-region, the search was on Friday in the Central region looking for Miss Tourism Buganda. The event held at Bulange, Mengo attracted patrons from every corner of Kampala City.

The event that was started by the late Tourism minister Maria Mutagamba four years ago, is now annual and has seen beauty queens promote Ugandan tourism.

By 7 pm on Friday evening, patrons started trickling into the Darling-sponsored event. They wanted to see who of the 18 beautiful ladies would be crowned queen. In attendance was the Nnaabagereka (queen) of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda.

The girls showcased their traditional Buganda outfits that included bark cloth, which is very ceremonial in Buganda; they also changed into creative wear and staged a skit about marriage.

The 18 contestants were then subjected to a Q&A session before the show ended at midnight with Sydney Nabulya Kavuma, 20, from Kyadondo, becoming Miss Tourism Buganda. She impressed the judges with her catwalk, great smile, public expression and communication skills.

Other winners of the night were first runner-up Rosely Namuyanja Nakato, 24, from Busiro, and Allen Genevieve Namakula, 19, from Bugerere, who was second runner-up.
