Hotel Africana poolside was filled with merrymaking as whiskey lovers celebrated the unveiling of two new Scottish whiskeys on the Ugandan market.
From Brian Mulondo, the event host, to Ykee Benda the entertainer of the evening, patrons to the invite-only event were treated to the true meaning of ‘tropical Scotland’.
The event attracted a large number of members of the Indian community, Rotarians, MPs led by Western youth legislator Mwine Mpaka, owners and operators of key lounges and bars in Kampala, among the others.
The unveiling of Old Glen and 9 Barrels was led by Gilbert Assi, the managing director of Vivo Energy Uganda Limited. Assi thanked Premier distilleries for bringing such a huge investment to a great country like Uganda.
Sitaram Reddy, the managing director of Premier Distilleries Limited, expressed his joy with the “new baby”. He was quick to add that they were the only distillery in Uganda producing Scottish whiskey.
Premier Distilleries has been in Uganda for the last 21 years. Old Glen and 9 Barrels, originally brewed in Scotland, will be packaged and blended in Uganda at their factory in Matugga.
