After an unexpected attack on his planet Asgard, orchestrated by his estranged sister Hela (Cate Blanchett), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is defeated and captured, losing his trusted weapon, the hammer.
He is held captive on planet Sakaar where he is forced to engage in gladiatorial fights against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
He looks for ways to escape and return to Asgard in time to stop Hela who seeks to rule Asgard and the impending Ragnarok ‒ a series of future events and untold disasters ‒ that will result in the deaths of the gods Odin, Thor and Loki.
