Karyn White here to jazz up Ugandans

Karyn White and Kirk Whalum at Guvnor, Kampala

It is the Nile Gold Jazz Safari and it is happening this evening at Kampala Serena hotel’s Victoria hall.

A brainchild of musician Tshaka Mayanja, never has the concert ever failed to be a sellout, and unless something out of the ordinary happens, the eighth edition of the annual jazz safari is billed to be as thrilling.

Already the headline acts Karyn White and Kirk Whalum jetted into the country and held a press briefing and attended a ‘meet and greet’ party at Guvnor Wednesday night.

Karyn White has one of the most memorable voices in popular music. She is an accomplished singer/songwriter who etched her name in music history with her hit song, and female anthem, Superwoman. Also popular were hits such as Hunger, Can I Stay With You Babe and Secret Rendezvous. She is just like what she says; a ‘superwoman.’

Kirk Whalum was part of the crew that played for Whitney Houston, when she performed her all-time classic: I Will Always Love You, during the filming of the movie Bodyguard.

He told the guests at the meet and greet that from what he had seen since his arrival in Uganda, the most beautiful women in the world were here. You can imagine the response. Wild and ballistic cheers and applause of approval was what ensued. Put simply, Whalum just hit the right notes.

As for White, who makes 50 in a fortnight, she just looked pretty, hot and sexy. As the screens in Guvnor telecast some of her music videos, she was busy jigging with some of the fans, bringing back the good old 90s.

Entrance to the show is Shs 200,000 and the VIP tables are available on reservation. However, if you haven’t got your ticket from selected supermarkets as you read this, then you are bound to miss out because there will be no tickets sold at the entrance.
