Women lawyers oppose Odoki

The Uganda Association of Women Lawyers, FIDA, has joined voices opposed to the re-appointment of Benjamin Odoki as the Chief Justice.

They called the re-appointment a ‘disrespect of the rule of law.’ In a statement issued Friday, FIDA said the appointment would be a recipe to compromising the judicial system.

“We also believe that there is no imperative to extend the term of Chief Justice, despite arguments about his competencies, as there are several other female and male judges who are well qualified to fill this position,” read the statement in part.

Justice Odoki retired after clocking 70 years, but the president has re-appointed him.
