With competition growing in the cement industry, after the entry of a number of companies, Hima Cement has introduced a new type of cement, RapidSet, to leverage its position in the market.
Hima Cement, according to a press statement, is designed exclusively for the precast concrete market “due to its rapid hardening attributes.”
The new cement (42.5R strength) was launched at Kyadondo Sports Grounds in Kampala last week, and is already available on the Ugandan market.
While addressing members of the press, Hima Cement’s Country CEO, Jean-Michel Pons said: “The construction and real estate market continues to grow tremendously and this drives our commitment to innovate and provide solutions that enhance efficiency for the industry.”
RapidSet, the company said, drives efficiency because of its high strength gain and rapid hardening qualities, which reduces production lead times for precast concrete works.
Hima is targeting large projects to take up this cement, especially those putting up concrete applications such as culverts, pavers, blocks, roof and floor concrete tiles, and bridge beams and concrete electricity poles among others.
“With a two-day strength of 25 mPa, you get double the strength for your finished precast products,” the company announced in a statement.
The cement is available in 30kg bags. Hima Cement has factories in Kasese, Tororo and a blending station in Kampala, with a combined cement production capacity of 2.1 million tonnes.
