Top female pool players battle in Masaka

The top 64 female pool players converge at Club Klein in Nyendo, Masaka this weekend for the 2017 Pool Queen championship, the top female competition on the national pool calendar.

Six previous winners are taking part in the competition that Tendo Kyeyune, the 2010 champion, describes as open.

“Most of the girls have improved in recent times and it is going to be a tight contest. Anyone is capable of springing a surprise,” she said.

This was perhaps in reference to national top seed, Rita Nimusiima, who was upset by youngster Madinah Naiga in the first round of the recent Independence cup.

On current form, 2016 Pool Queen Angella Busingye is the player to beat following her impressive showings in the league for table-topping CKI Pool club. She will have to contend with CKI teammate Vicky Namuyanja.

Two-time former champion Jacinta Kajubi [2011 and 2012] is the other former champion in with  a chance of winning the championship.

The top player will take home a super league pool table valued at Shs 7 million plus Shs 1 million cash.

The runner-up will bag Shs 1.5m cash while third and fourth-placed players will walk away with Shs 1m and Shs 500,000 respectively.
