KCCA run riot in UPL

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for giants in the Azam Uganda Premier League with former champions SC Villa and URA sharing the spoils while KCCA hit Masavu for dead, reports JOHN VIANNEY NSIMBE.

Defending champions KCCA FC rediscovered their winning touch in style as they scored for fun, hitting half a dozen goals past hapless Masavu FC in one of the league matches played on Saturday.

Coach Mike Mutebi’s side had not tested victory in three games and were coming off a 1-2 loss to bitter rivals SC Villa in their previous match.

SC Villa’s Yubu Bogere (L) tries to beat URA’s Patrick Mbowa in a league match on Saturday

The Lugogo-based outfit, however, responded with a wave of goals that stunned Masavu. Tito Okello scored twice to take his tally to four goals so far.  Patrick Kaddu, Allan Kateregga, Samuel Ssekamate and Derrick Nsibambi added one apiece to complete the rout.

Mutebi was delighted to see Kaddu, Kateregga and Ssekamate on the scoresheet, confirming his new additions have started clicking.

Before Saturday’s massive victory, only comparable to their 7-0 hammering of Onduparaka at the same venue last season, pressure had started piling on the champions. However, their response should silence critics and doubters for now.

Elsewhere, SC Villa shared the spoils with URA in an entertaining goalless  draw at Namboole. Both teams created good chances but lacked precision. Soana shocked Kirinya Jinja SS, with Allan Kayiwa netting the lone winner.

On Friday, Vipers SC defeated Mbarara City FC 1-0 for their first win in four matches.  The league resumes today with Police hosting Maroons,  as Masave face URA, Soana take on UPDF while Onduparaka welcome Mbarara.
