The 2017 Nile Special University Football League (UFL) enters a crucial phase this afternoon when former finalists Nkumba University visit Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi for the first leg of their semi-final.
The tie is a repeat of last year’s matchup at the same stage which Nkumba won 2-1 on aggregate. Two seasons earlier, Nkumba had routed Nkozi 11-0 during the group phase.
The two sides have met seven times since 2012 with the best result for Nkozi being a 1-1 draw last season in the second leg of their semi-final.
It is clear the gap has since closed and Patrick Sebuliba, the Nkumba coach, acknowledges that fact.
“Nkozi are a very different team from the one we used to beat with ease. They play very good football, especially when they are at home and we are not taking anything for granted,” he said.
