Mao, 11 others arrested over age limit protest march

Democratic Party president general, Norbert Mao and eleven other party members have been arrested as they attempted to march to parliament today.

Police intercepted Mao and his group at Cairo bank along Kampala road this afternoon, a few meters from the DP headquarter offices at City House. The group was marching to Parliament to protest against the proposed scrapping of the presidential age limit.

Norbert Mao was arrested alongside 11 others for attempting to march to Parliament

Others arrested are Ronald Muyini Ssebana, Dr Mayambala Kiwanuka, Robert Mukooza, David Musiiri, Jamie Isiko, Musa Ntege, Richard Nvanungi, Alex Ochaki, Edwardo Kahiigi, Caleb Tumuharwe and Bashir Bisaso.

Luke Owoyesigire, the deputy spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), has confirmed the arrest.

"We are recording statements from the arrested suspects as we continue with investigations," Owoyesigire told URN.

The 12 are being held on tentative charges of holding an unlawful procession. Detectives handling the case have already contacted the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) with intent of arraigning the suspects in Buganda Road Magistrate's court.

This morning, Mao launched the 'Red ribbon week' intended to mobilise the public against the proceedings in parliament intended to scrap article 102(b), which caps the president's age at between 35 and 75 years.

It was highly anticipated that the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee chaired by the West Budama South MP, Jacob Oboth-Oboth will table its report on the contentious Constitutional Amendment Bill 2017 today.

What is wrong with Ugandans? Even DP does not know it's Unity of ALL for our second Independence that is needed right now!!!

Why do Ugandans still think going individually-in small groups-tribally-regionally, will bring change when museveni uses Ugandans themselves to harass-molest-arrest... one another?

Why does museveni use Ugandans against one another yet is expected to be got rid of & by who & how?

Just 1 oppositiob block with just 1 leader is what is needed to call ALL out to block parliamen-state house & bring the tribalistic system to stand still & force tribal leaders to take sides, with the people as 1 people/1 nation, or with museveni!

There should be no more division with tribal leaders helping museveni, nor +1 opposition leaders, but ALLL MUST UNITE & come out & block the demon who has no place in Uganda any more, except in prison!...

...Why be party leader when you don't know what it takes to be country leader?

It's the people you have to bring Together with viable alternative socioeconomic programme, while letting them know what the change will brig for them?

How can opposition leaders still insist on going seperately when all Ugandans need is just 1 opposition leader to Unite them, for common purpose against the common enemy, who, by the way, uses Ugandans as fire balls against one another?

This means, it's Ugandans who want the demon out, are the ones fighting one another to keep the same demon they want out, in power!

Does this situation make sense to Ugandans?

DP-UPC should be the first to know/see the moment museveni amended our Constitution, he made it clear it was him the sole authority & Ugandans are NOTHING, except to hand over their country to him & we are doing just that!...

...By going along questioning our belonging to our country in parliament, fighting over land, debating museveni's age, we have surrendered our land to the demon who knows he MUST have it legally-officially-constitutionally, in order to make us ALL illegal landless while he & his people will become REAL OWNERS of each & every tribal land!

Not 1 tribe will have tribal l and when we make museveni legal-official-constitutional owner of our country & there won't be tribal leaders any more too!

What is UNITY agains museveni, blocking him with just 1 opposition leader goig to cost Ugandans?

Yet, our continued idiocy in staying divided while debating our belonging to our country will soon throw every Ugandan out of even tribal lands!

Are we that naive?

Even Acholi have become the most stupid/brainless & self destructive today!!!

As for Makerered University students, I believe they were born under museveni & know just him! Yet, is this the country & governance they want their children born/raised in?

My child is not yet even 30 but has finished education, has a job, bough a house!

So, is Akot calling Ugandans to Unite to throw museveni out to give chance to the next generation selfish, way out of line, not serious & is it because Akot does not love Ugandans?

If even University students don't know/see they must Unite against museveni to bring change & have good governance, then why are they studying & why will they have children?

Do students in Uganda want their children born-raised-educated & live the same as they have, with the same museveni who wants to be made not only lifetime dictator, but owner of Uganda too?

Uganda should desist from in necessary expenditure on safe limit consultation but rat concentrate on improving the welfare of her civil servants like teachers and medical practitioners, invest in agriculture, roads, transport, job creation etc.

The construction shouldn't be amended for whatever reasons. Togikwatako
