Police Flying Squad shoot dead 3-year-old girl in Mityana

Three police officers attached to the Police Flying Squad have shot dead a 3-year-old girl and injured two other people in Mityana district.

The incident occurred today in Buluma village in Butayunja sub-county in Mityana district. According to information obtained by URN, the officers raided the village on the invitation of a resident only identified as Kulumba after he was accused by locals for possessing witchcraft.
When the officers arrived on the village, they reportedly attempted to make arrests, but residents put up resistance prompting the officers to open fire. In the process, the officers shot dead 3-year-old Viola and injured her mother Dina Nabakooza and another resident identified as Ivan Kato. The officers fled the scene shortly after shooting their victims.

The Wamala Region Police Commander, Fred Kidima rushed to the area and apologized to the residents. He explained that the officers will be apprehended and arraigned in court for murder and attempted murder.
“We regret the incident that happened this morning, where some three officers attached to Flying Squad shot and killed a child, two people went injured. We can say; this was not a sanctioned operation. Nobody knew about it. They organised themselves criminally and executed this operation which was not sanctioned by anybody. Even their immediate commander is not aware…First of all we condemn this act that was done, we have opened up a case of murder, attempted murder and we are hunting for these people," said Kidima.
He however, didn't disclose the identities of the irate officers. Joseph Luzige, the Mityana LC V chairperson, also rushed to the area and appealed to the residents to stay calm as police hunts the suspects.

Police handed over the body of the deceased to Mityana hospital for postmortem while the injured were rushed to Mulago national referral hospital for treatment.

There we go, Museveni should attend the burial of that girl as he has done to Felix Kaweesi.

Otherwise Uganda mourns only when one of their own falls down. Ordinary citizens are seen as unworthy humans especially after voters casting their ballot papers.

In other words, even without reading the headline, each time I see the Observer's iconic, weapon of mass destruction: the AK47on the polished wooden floor; it means either a security officer has either committed a homicide or suicide.

I wonder whether M7 will pronounce that the murderers of this toddler will be hunted down like pigs and killed as he did about Kaweesi's murderers.

If not, I think I am entitled to ask why, especially since the murderers here are police office entrusted to serve and protect. Or is a life of an ordinary citizen less important.
