The Lions Club of Kampala Central under the theme ‘run for sight’ is making preparations for their fifth annual Lions marathon on the October 22, to end blindness.
Ever since Hellen Keller urged them in 1925 to be the ‘Knights of the blind’, they have achieved their goal and continue the journey even across borders to Kenya and Tanzania.
The club is partnering with FOL logistics (Kingdom rice), who donated $40,000 for the three medical camps starting with Kololo, then Mparo in Kabale district (October 25-26), Nwoya, Northern Uganda (November 24-26), and activities will include the annual marathon till 2021.
Other organisations supported the cause, with Bank of Uganda pledging Shs 10m towards the medical camps. Lion’s president Wilberforce Asiimwe thanked the partners for giving hope to the blind.
