They were once a great side, actually Uganda’s crème de la crème but this time round they have lost the glamour and glitz that made them the talk of town. Utl Kobs, a side that won the league championship three years in a row (from 2006-2008) have failed to even win a plate cup in this season’s Seven’s circuit.

For one, Kobs have never played the scintillating rugby which they exhibited when Arthur Mugweri was their coach. In 2006, under Mugweri’s regime Kobs basked in the glory of a clean sweep of the league cup, Uganda cup, Chairman’s Cup, the Easter Cup and the Seven’s championship.

They are now a shadow of their past selves. Their current coach, Herbert Wafula is grappling with finding capable replacements for players like Adrian Bukenya, Edmond Tumusiime and Kenneth Mutabaruka. Without these players his side is devoid of depth and experience.

On the other hand they have also not been so keen on their discipline issues, a factor which has cost them championships this season. Kobs also seem to have lost the passion and morale that they had last year both on and off the pitch. Kobs’ fall from grace contrasts the dream season that their bitter rivals, MTN Heathens have enjoyed. Heathens, who lifted the Broadband Seven’s title to complete a clean sweep of all this season’s titles, have disproved their critics who forecasted them struggling when Brian Power left their stead.

The proficiency of players like Scott Olwoch, Jude Kirimode and Brian Kikawa has made the MTN-sponsored side a force to reckon with. The size of the players has also served as a formidably intimidating factor to their opponents. Peter Magona might not have the best personality but he surely has the man management attributes. Magona has insured that there is discipline in his Kyadondo-based outfit.

C'mon Brian Power is overrated...Magona & the players deserve most credit...ask Madoi. This Power talk is just some media facade from scribes who don't understand rugby
