Orange Uganda and Apple will launch the iPhone 3GS in the country next month after the phone turned heads in the USA and UK. Orange is hoping to target the elite clientele, seeking more value for their money from their cellular phones.
A brief statement from Orange states that both the iPhone 3G and its successor the iPhone 3GS are the fastest and most powerful iPhones on the market today. It notes that the phone will be available to Orange Uganda customers from December 11, 2009.
The move is expected to introduce the Apple phone to a market presently dominated by Nokia. Already, consumers in the UK and USA are making the iPhone the biggest competitor for Nokia because of its function, which, among other benefits, makes it easy for one to surf the internet. According to Wikipaedia, the iPhone 3G is an internet and multimedia enabled smart-phone designed and marketed by Apple Inc, which also features a camera phone (also including text messaging and visual voicemail), a portable media player (equivalent to a video iPod), among others.
The iPhone 3GS will come in two versions; the 16GB memory phone, and the 32GB, both with improved speed, a camera with more mega-pixels and video capability and voice control, as well as a more powerful battery (capable of five hours talk time or 30 hours of music).
Orange Uganda has not indicated how much customers will part with for either of the phones. However, Apple ships the iPhone 3G for $199 and the iPhone 3GS for $299 if you have a contract with AT&T or O2. If you are attached to Orange UK, it may cost you up to £45 or $74 per month for 24months to obtain the iPhone 3GS. Orange UK acquired the rights to market the iPhone in September, getting 200,000 customers in the first week.
