Is there a thing like anti-aging cream really? Anti-aging would literally mean that it will stop the clock from clicking away your hours on earth thus stopping you from growing from say 29 to 30 years of age!

Anti-wrinkle cream is probably a more acceptable term, but even then, will all the money you spend on tonnes and tonnes of these creams make you look any less 45? Age brings with it those deep expression lines on your forehead and around your mouth. Anyone would give anything to get back their baby skin and look like that cute adorable lot, but no, that is how God willed it. It is common practice to find, especially women, discussing the best anti-aging cream.

"No, that one doesn't work try L'oreal," they advise one another. "No, try Bio Oil it has worked for me. Q-10 is the new thing, it's the best." Others write to cosmetologists or dermatologists asking for suggestions on how to scale back aging signs.

Of course the cosmetologist is there to make money and will suggest anything that will dig a hole in your pocket. Wrinkles are a by-product of the aging process. The skin cells divide more slowly, and the inner layer (dermis) begins to thin. The skin loses its elasticity, is less able to retain moisture, oil-secreting glands are less efficient and the skin is slower to heal. All of these contribute to the development of wrinkles.

Your lifestyle choices: diet, environmental factors, exercise and the topical skin care products and skin care regimen you choose, all affect the way you are going to appear now and 10, 20, or 30 years down the road. If you use bleaching agents and expect anti-aging creams to reverse your burnt skin, tough luck.

Many products on the market will give you a glow and pill away the effects of sun burn, and also help clean out the pores of your skin, helping it to breath.

They may be anything from a concealer, foundation, face powder, cleanser, toner or moisturiser. Body Care Centre, Sylvie's Boutique, Delight Supplies, Charms are some of the shops in Kampala with a range of anti-wrinkle creams including Neutrogena anti-blemish cream, Garnier Ultra-Lift, Nivea Visage Q10, Maybelline instant age rewind cream, and many more.

You can also try Botox if you are reading this from across the Atlantic or Indian Ocean as Botox has not found its way into Uganda yet. If you look closely at Ugandan women who are supposedly aging gracefully, you will notice that they are also wearing layers and layers of make up that cover the pimples, wrinkles and block the pores.

But why not go back to the real anti-aging solution-exercise, which many Ugandans don't take seriously? Our grand and great grand parents used to dig for hours on end before they went hunting, fetching firewood, water from the ends of the world, and they ate healthy boiled foods.

Today, exercise is a thing of the Western world!
You can spend all the money you want but the years will keep piling if you don't exercise. So just follow a fitness instructor's guide, hit the road and run the miles, then spend the money on some healthy food and water.
