Celebrity lovebirds Michael Kasaija and Natasha Sinayobye have taken their romance a notch higher – they star in a local movie.
The couple, famous for quitting the then high-flying Obsessions to start defunct Kombat Dancers, is currently in Sese Islands shooting an ‘80s-set love story. Directed by music video cinematographer Badi, Bala Bala Sese tells an emotional story of a young village couple caught in their parents’ selfish endeavours. The film chronicles undying love, corruption, Aids and fornication.
And the dancer couple’s steamy romance could not have come any handier. They easily slipped into their roles with beefy Kasaija playing the male lead while his baby mama, stunning Sinayobye, is his love interest.
“You can’t attach any price to the realism they portray in the film. They act as though they are at home in their bedroom and this is what every director wishes for,” script writer Usama Mukwaya tells us.
This is the second film Badi has worked on after the 2009 hit Mukajanga. He has enlisted the help of fellow music video cinematographers, KimXP and Archmens to boost Bala Bala Sese. Raymond Bishabiro, Fiona Birungi and Jabal Ddungu fill up the supporting roles.
Meanwhile, news filtering in from the deprived islands indicates that heavy rains have disrupted the shooting process. The cast and crew have now resorted to residential camping, much to the excitement of the villagers who compose the bigger percentage of the cast. Bala Bala Sese premieres this March.
