Salim Saleh, one time state minister in charge of Microfinance, is the new patron of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI).
Saleh, younger brother to President Museveni, was unanimously approved by the UCCI Annual General Assembly held recently at Colline hotel in Mukono. As UNCCI patron, Saleh will closely associate with the country’s successful business persons who include industrialists, entrepreneurs and manufacturers.
His appointment could bring him closer to the business community, and possibly widen his influence in the private sector. UNCCI’s board of trustees includes Gordon Wavamunno, Sudhir Ruparelia, Amos Nzeyi and Mayur Madhvani.
According to some of its objectives, UNCCI wants to help small and medium entrepreneurs especially in the agricultural sector access affordable financing through loans and modern technology.
Recently, UNCCI signed a pact with Turkish investors expected to boost the agricultural sector by setting processing plants to add value to the produce.
Olive Kigongo, who was retained as chairperson of UNCCI, says she will embark on growing the Chamber’s financial resources to help members boost their businesses.
