The battle between Mathias Walukagga and Ssalongo ‘Samona’ Kasawuli is not about to end much as they claim it is over. During the Bwiino w’Omutembeeyi concert at Calendar Guest House – Makindye on Eid day, singer after singer attacked the cosmetics tycoon. Kasawuli and Walukagga signed an agreement that would see them move together promoting Samona petroleum jelly and to convince people that it was not Samona Walukagga was singing about. But some fellow musicians are accusing Walukagga of taking the quarrel too far.

One musician who did not want to be disclosed said that Walukagga will emerge the loser because Kasawuli has been apologetic yet they both erred.
“Walukagga should grow up and not torment the man to that extent because he [Kasawuli] has helped a lot of musicians by sponsoring their shows and studio work,” he said.

Those close to Kasawuli say the tycoon has given up on musicians because even those he considered his best friends were seen at Makindye court supporting Walukagga. But the singer says he is not provoking Kasawuli, although he is not willing to go everywhere with him. Samona was not at Calendar.

“There is nowhere in our agreement where we stated we shall do shows together... For those saying that I am provoking ‘Samona’ [with the Calendar concert] should think twice because I have to thank people for their support and it’s the people who say ill about him and not me,” he said.

When Frank Mugambe, a junior member of Walukagga’s Vision Production came on stage he did two songs all attacking Samona and his allies. In one song he sang: ‘yali mukazi bukazi ayombya Samona ne Walukagga… era abo abayamba okubatabaganya babaleke beemale eggoga…’ (The beef between Samona and Walukagga is about a mere woman. Let mediators leave them to fight it out).

Mugambe went on to sing his second song which goes like, “omusajja akajanja kamukakkanye… era bw’onoddamu okukikola ebizigo byo ojakunoonya gy’obisuubuza – omwana wa munno n’omuttisa obutwa!” – (the man has been tamed…if you try it again, who will buy your cosmetics…how can you poison [Walukagga’s] son?)

As Mugambe sang the inflammatory lyrics, the charged crowd interjected with, “Samona!” One couldn’t help but laugh, when a very dark performer came on stage and the crowd shouted that the tycoon’s petroleum jelly was to blame for such a dark complexion. The show featured Gerald Kiweewa and Fred Ssebaale who sang their collabo with Walukagga, Kampase mu Kyalo.

The entire audience crowded the stage when Walukagga sang Bwiino W’ekkomera, to hug their latest hero and it took the intervention of well-wishers for calm to be restored. Walukagga did Tugende e Namboole, Lunkuse Wansala and Ntugubadde lwa Fees… before doing Katuleppuke as the audience sang along. By this time fans were hurling all sorts of insults at Samona, and Walukagga took a break leaving William Kibuuka to sing his most popular song Akaalo ka Buganda. This too did not leave anybody seated. Walukagga came back on stage with Bwiino w’Omutembeeyi and again his fans sang along.
