Radio and Weasel's amazing arrogance

If you thought that the beef between singing duo Mowzey Radio & Weasel and Charlie Lubega’s Ange Noir was about to fizzle out, think again.

The duo were kicked out of the club over fighting and the club said until it receives an apology from the two singers, they would not be allowed in the club. Since then there have been whispers that the duo has been involved in low level, behind the scenes attempts to patch up their differences with the club without losing face.

So imagine our surprise when we got it from the horse’s mouth that Mowzey and Weasel absolutely have no intention of apologising to the club!

“We have chosen to use our precious time on producing music instead of wasting it on things of less importance to our fans and admirers. We are of sane mind and our decision is to never go back to Ekiduula (Ange Noir).” No white flags in sight yet! Just a question; who loses more?

Chameleone starts foundation

Apart from being the self proclaimed heavyweight of Ugandan music, it seems Jose Chameleone also has a soft spot for children.

Chameleone has joined the likes of Iryn Namubiru and Angella Katatumba who have started foundations to champion causes close to their hearts. Chameleone’s venture to cater for underprivileged kids is to be met under The Chameleone Foundation. He unveiled this side of his personality during his ‘Give Back to the People Corporate Night’ at Imperial Royale last week.

To show his seriousness, the singer made a Shs 2m donation to the Naguru reception centre which mainly looks after abandoned babies.

Obsessions' cash woes

It seems the number of errant artiste groups that default on paying their dues and blame it on the credit crunch just keeps growing. The latest to make thislist of shame happens to be pioneer contemporary dance and singing group The Obsessions.

We hear many hired dancers who helped the struggling group to stage their To Love is to Die show at the National Theatre remain unpaid many months down the road. Among the dancers were Kombat dance group owners Michael Kasaija and Natasha Sinayobye.

The play enjoyed an extended run at Bat Valley as the Obsessions sought tocapitalize on their return project.

Word reaching us is that Obsessions founders Ronnie Mulindwa and Remy Lubega have been dodging the hired dancers. Mbu, they are not returning calls or picking up if they recognize the phone number of one of their debtors. What a shame!

GNL Camp's new launch gimmick

Kampala has seen some pretty outrageous stunts meant to grab attention. Who can forget Jose Chameleone coming on stage riding a horse during one of his concerts?

Or Bebe Cool infamously stepping on top of tables at one of the PAM Awards bashes? Well it seems over the years the nature of stunts has improved if you go by what the rapper GNL Zamba’s camp is putting out.

This latest stunt is designed to appeal to hardcore GNL fans who might attend the rapper’s August concerts. We hear at the concerts, special GNL magazines will be distributed to the fans.

But that is far from the unique touch. Some lucky fans will have articles sieved through a competition titled ‘Being a GNL fan’ appear in these magazines. No word on whether the winning fans will get any prizes.

Fagil Mandy to vend books

No one can accuse Fagil Mandy of not being innovative. The famed educationist is about to embark on yet another entrepreneurial venture.

Fagil who is also known to have a hand in managing two hotels as well as being an active writer now wants to branch out and sell his own books! Fagil is reportedly unhappy with the slow sales of his books in bookshops.

But instead of whining about it, Fagil is doing something about it. Fagil apparently believes the reason for the low sales is because “Ugandans don’t have the time to go into bookshops.”

So? “We are going to start hawking books on the street because people just want to buy from the streets.” Fagil will be undertaking this project with friend Martin Lwanga, a newspaper columnist.

Veep shops for land in Masindi

We know embattled Pastor Samuel Kakande is one of the richest pastors in Uganda. It however seems that Vice President Dr. Gilbert Bukenya was not fully aware of the magnitude of Pastor Kakande’s financial muscle until he was taken on a tour of Kakande’s farm in Masindi a week ago.

On seeing the one square kilometre piece of farmland owned by the man behind Synagogue Church of all Nations, Bukenya was visibly impressed by the vast yields.

Bukenya reportedly asked if there was still similar free land in Masindi he could purchase. He said he had been so wowed by Kakande’s agricultural success that he wished to emulate him.

in Masindi Kakande is reportedly neighbours with commander of the Ugandan air force Major General Jim Owesigire who owns reportedly an equally large chunk of land there. It seems Bukenya is eager to join this exclusive club, if you ask us!

Toniks gets wheels

Alan Toniks who burst onto the music scene in late 2007 with his Beera Nange is finally reaping dividends. The singer who has since gone on to release other successful singles like Nsubiza and Yenze is set to join musicians who own cars.

Although Toniks seems to be starting humble – the car that the musician has paid for is a Mark II – we hear it is because he did not want to attract undue attention.

The musician who is signed to Ally Alibhai’s Talent 256 and often works with Goodenuff Studios is understandably over the moon over his new acquisition.

Zawedde in T.I.D collabo

Sarah Zawedde might have seemingly gone quiet on the local music scene after her album launch. But it seems she has gone silent because she has been busy crossing borders as far as her music is concerned. The latest we hear is that Zawedde is working on a collabo in Tanzania with one of that country’s leading musicians T.I.D.

But a collabo is not the only thing going on between the two musicians. Also, T.I.D. invited Zawedde to perform at his official launch on July 26 when he was unveiling the band that is going to regularly accompany. We hear Zawedde put up an impressive performance to merit an invite for a collabo with the famously picky musician.
