Besigye cautions journalists

Later he wa shot in the abdomen by a military personnel FDC president Dr Kizza Besigye has cautioned journalists to beware of police brutality following the death of Assistant Inspector of Police John Michael Ariong on March 21 during skirmishes between civilians and the police in the city.

Addressing the press last Friday, Besigye urged journalists to be careful and to wear protective gear while covering demonstrations and events involving opposition politicians because, according to the information he had received, the police are now targeting journalists.
The skirmishes and Ariong’s unfortunate passing sparked off anger among police officers, with some threatening to avenge their colleague’s death.

And, while the Inspector General of Police, Lt Gen Kale Kayihura, advised police officers to remain calm and avoid seeking revenge, his deputy, Martin Okoth Ochola, warned that the red flag had been raised.

“We can’t keep holding back our hands when lawless people are killing us. It’s time to act within the law to eradicate lawlessness in the country,” he told The Observer, repeating sentiments he had expressed during Ariong’s requiem service at Christ the King Church in Kampala last Friday.

Good advice, Dr Kizza Besigy: beware.

Demonstrators and journalists should all wear bullet-proof vests and hard hats when entering the war zone. Avoid construction sites with falling debris.

I have witnessed to police brutality vented upon innocent and obedient civilians unprovoked. These people (Police are blood thirsty).
Why did they suspend the peace loving officer who simply escorted Olara Otunnu without any instance from Nakawa during the walk to work demonstrations.

This clearly shows the partisan police bosses do not want peace that is why they always break up peaceful demonstration and then turn around to say these are rowdy people. The police are only provoking playing on group Psychology. It is clear that a group of people are always charged whoever engages with them must always try to reduce the charge by persuasion.

I would like to assure the police that no amount of violence can defeat a crowd. You only energise them the more and make them more violent. This free advise is good for you and your job. So be ware of what you are talking about. You need the civilians whom you want to treat as enemies for your intelligence gathering and your general survival!

Changing system means changing attitudes,expec tations and behaviors.this means over coming fear,prejudice and fear.

This old system cant embrace what the opposition is doing.there it takes concentrated focus,practical creativity,and long term of energy to advance a system change and to ensure that that change is rooted in institutions and cultures.
