Statement of Uganda N'eddagala Lyayo on the state of child sacrifice in the country

Our concern is drawn to the recent report released by Humane Africa indicating that a child is murdered or mutilated in Uganda every single week by suspected traditional healers.

The leadership of traditional healers through the umbrella association, Uganda N’eddagala Lyayo, would like to respond to the report on child sacrifice and subsequent reactions from stake holders during a press discourse organized by the Uganda Journalists Association on 13th February 2013.

First, the leadership of traditional healers condemns any form of child sacrifice or mutilation as had been detailed in the Humane Africa Report. As Uganda N’eddagala Lyayo, we do not agree that traditional healers are to blame. Uganda N’eddagala Lyayo is against human bloodletting or any form of mutilation of humans for any form of traditional healing.

We believe the people practicing child sacrifice are not genuine traditional healers and demand for an independent investigation into the issue of child sacrifice in the country because some criminals may be disguising as traditional healers to murder and mislead police in their investigations.

We also ask Government to put in place a law to govern the practice of traditional healers which has been our demand for now twenty years. This state of affairs coupled with porous boundaries means fake traditional healers could take advantage and harm our people.

As Uganda N’eddagala Lyayo,we have launched a campaign to weed out fake traditional healers and sensitize the public about our work. We call upon the Government, Police and other stakeholders including donor Agencies to join us in the fight to stop child sacrifice and mutilation.

He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; Psalm 104:14

Herbalists in America are not witchdoctors.

All witch doctors/ wizards and their supporters should be out-lawed. They have casused enough pain to humanity.
